Garnet is a mineral from the group of natural calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese or aluminum silicates. It is most often found in dark red, but it can be found in a variety of colors. The garnet, depending on the variety, can be between 6.5 – 7.5 on the Mohs scale. Most of the crystals were found in the USA, South Africa and Sri Lanka. They originate from the earth's crust from metamorphic, igneous rocks, produced at very high pressures and temperatures, such as following volcanic eruptions.
